Neptune Day!

Hello everyone!

So today we had the day off of school for a "reading day" so last night me and my roommate Bridget stayed up watching the move Superbad. I was up really late and finally fell asleep with the thought of the lovely morning of sleep I had ahead of me. Anyone who really knows me is aware that I am NOT a morning person. So you can imagine when I was woken up by the sounds of people yelling, whistles blowing, and pots and pans being banged relentlessly, I was none to happy. I had no idea what was going on so I tried falling back asleep. Bridget got up and followed the noise and said the crew members were dressed like warriors. It then dawned on me that is was indeed Neptune Day, not a reading day. Neptune Day is a Semester at Sea (and any boat on sea) tradition of weird activities when you cross the equator. So we all woke up very very early this morning and went to the pool deck. There the pool was filled with saltwater and the deans came out dressed in toga's  holding tritons and had green body paint on. It was quite hilarious to see our deans with no shirts on covered in body paint. Everyone had to get this gross water poured on them and then jump into the pool. After they go out of the pool they have to kiss a fish and the rings of King Neptune himself. Then everyone must shave their head. (Of course all of this is optional and you may bow out at any point) No I did not shave my head. However, 6 other girls did. It gave me anxiety to watch them get a buzz cut. I would say 75% of the guys also did this and they now all look like they belong in the army. Some guys should have kept their hair....

Anyways, it was a nice break from classes and a fun way to celebrate being on this amazing ship in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean with nothing around for miles and miles!

It was also my friend Steven (from CU) birthday so we signed up for the special occasion dining. This is when they actually serve you real people food! It was superb and very filling. I can't wait to get to Ghana now to continue eating good food!

Until next time!
