Today was the day of the Sea Olympics! The ship has different decks that are divided into different Sea's and colors. I am deck 2, which is the Aegean Sea and the color blue. There were different competitions all day that consisted of a number of points that were added up if sea's placed in the top three. There were also points awarded for spirit, sportsmanship, donation boxes for each sea (to give to orphanages/villages in each country), and whichever sea won the King and Queen competition. During the beginning of the semester I wasn't expecting to win the Sea Olympics because all the other seas had better chants and were more prepared for the King and Queen of the sea competition. As the day progressed I saw our seas name placing either first or second in the events. Towards the end of the day I was really excited that we might be able to win! The last event was the lip-syncing competition. It was SO much fun to watch. There were some amazing and creative routines that made all of us laugh and stare in awe. As the lip-syncing came to an end the judges tallied up the final scores. Ko, our sea RD (resident director), announced third place to The Seekers. He then said first place had a total of 185 points and second place had a total of 175 points so it was really close. Second place was the Baltic Sea. First place was my sea, the Aegean Sea!! It sounds dorky but we all worked really hard in the events and had such good teamwork so it was an awesome feeling winning. It also doesn't hurt that they are throwing our sea a party in the Glacier Lounge, which is the really nice faculty lounge, AND best of all our sea gets to get off the ship first in San Diego. I know this doesn't sound like a huge prize but I have heard from alumni that you want to win Sea Olympics to get off the ship first because if you have to wait all day to get off it is the worst. You have to sit in your room until you get called for security and organizational reasons. Now I will be able to get off the in the morning versus 3:00 in the afternoon. How exciting!
